Paying Tribute to Trees

woodland imageI’ve been inspired by the Forestry Commission’s ongoing celebration of their centenary to join in the nationwide ‘Tribute to Trees’ and pen a poem about the healing nature of woodland.

We have so many beautiful spots here in Northumberland and I’m often to be found treading through leaves and talking to trees! Woods are so therapeutic. In my humble opinion, they really do soothe the soul and a walk in the woods is so much more than just a chance to enjoy beautiful scenery. It’s about reconnecting with who we really are.

Why not pay your own tribute? It doesn’t have to be a poem, it could be a letter or a short story or simply a photograph. Let’s celebrate our forests; they are more precious than we know.

Wisdom of the Woods

          Gnarled
by the onslaught of life;
our weary souls
seek out solace
in leaf-lined pathways.

         Wizened
by ageless experience;
fluttering thoughts slowly
absorb the rhythm
of the woods.

         Reaching
beyond what is;
we catch ethereal
glimpses of knowing,
glistening in the sunlight.

         Unfurling
into grateful stillness;
fears soften in a
woodland embrace.
And peace enfolds us.

All is well here.
